Indoor-outdoor living
After 32 years of cherished memories, the owners of this family home felt it was time for a transformation. The original layout featured brick interior walls, separated kitchen and living areas, and dated finishes that no longer suited their lifestyle.
The Vision
The homeowners envisioned a modern space with seamless indoor-outdoor flow to accommodate their love for entertaining. During our initial consultation, we delved into their lifestyle preferences, emphasising their passion for music and gatherings. This insight led us to enhance the original design by enlarging the joinery and incorporating an expansive outdoor area.
The Transformation
To bring this vision to life, we undertook significant structural changes:
Living Area Expansion: We extended the main living space and introduced two structural portals to create an open-plan kitchen and living area.
Enhanced Connectivity: Large sliding doors now lead to a covered outdoor entertainment area, effectively doubling the home's living space.
Modern Finishes: The interior boasts engineered oak flooring, while the exterior features new corrugated roofing and pine cladding.
Outdoor Entertainment: A new fireplace and BBQ setup make the outdoor area perfect for hosting.
The project, initially planned as a house renovation, evolved to include the outdoor area, extending the timeline to six months.
Overcoming Challenges
Visualising the final outcome was a challenge for the clients. By maintaining open communication and collaborating closely with the architect, we adapted the design to better suit their needs. This included redesigning the ensuite for improved functionality.
The Outcome
The renovation has transformed the house into a modern masterpiece with improved warmth from new double-glazed windows and luxurious finishes that evoke a hotel-like ambiance. The clients expressed that the process was stress-free and enjoyable, highlighting the importance of trust and collaboration in achieving their dream home.
